The general consensus seems to be that the fiberglass top can't handle much weight. Do a search for roof rack and there are some guys that have some custom racks that actually attach to and sit on re bed rails and then the top sits on top of the racks rails. Pretty neat idea.
Also there is a...
Arghh!!! I pressed out the other side and I took it really really slow. Got the clips removed, brushed off all the rust around the outside of the cups, put some penetrating oil on there. Took it nice an slow in the press. I think it still managed to bend the ears. These things are really...
This thing just keeps getting better and better! My u-joint ears are bent on the wheel that locked up! After looking around on the internet it's looking like I'm just going to have to buy some new. or used axle stubs. This was always a possibility from the beginning and was pointed out...
Ok all it looks like we are rounding third to home base. FMJ may have found what we are looking for but in case anyone wants to know the GM part number is:
6273934
Thanks for finding the autozone one. I'm going to order them now and hopefully I'll have them Saturday. Once I get that it's...
The seal is all I need now. I have all the parts for the hub. I finished taking apart the drivers side and it turns out that it is in need of a seal as well. I went ahead and gor u-joints for both front axles and I'm going to go ahead and replace those since I have them out.
Do you think...
Sorry I haven't been able to post in a while guys. I have been busy with a new job and this last weekend was my anniversary so I didn't have a chance to work on the truck until just today.
Anyhow today I went ahead and started tearing into the driver's side of the truck to figure out what a...
OK the spindle came on UPS yesterday. I'm looking through all the parts manuals and such but I'm having a hard time figuring out all the parts I'm going to need. I have a new set of Warn lockouts, the new spindle which came with a seal kit and a inner bearing already installed. I know I need...
OK the whole thing is now OFF! :jumpin:
So now that everything is off, it's time to order some parts and put it all back on. So far the only thing I have is a new set of lockout hubs. Everything else is toast. The spindle is all beat up and the seals and everything are else are shot. The...
OK disregard my last. I basically had to tap on the spindle socket with a hammer and then it grabbed and I was able to get the lockout nut off. So now I'm trying to get this little bugger off and it won't come off. I tried pulling it off and wrenching it off. It's keeping the bearing and...
OK I got the autozone spindle socket and it is grabbing the gear but I go to turn it and it slips off with pressure. This is the one I'm using.
OEM Industrial 27076 Axle Spindle Locknut Socket
I noticed the little spots where I guess it's supposed to grab are pretty marred up.
Ideas?
Booyah! It's off. I'm going to call O'Reilly and see if they have that socket I need.
I got a Craftsman gear puller at Sears this afternoon. About 1 minute after starting to ratchet on the puller it came off. I should have bought one last weekend.
I've taken the cover off that hub and looked at it but have not rebuilt it yet as I'm waiting on my new lockouts to arrive. I see the snap ring that it has but looking at it and then looking at the messed up side make me think the snap right over the spline shaft broke off and got chewed up...
I just tried a tip someone gave me on here and had my wife hold the gear with my pry bar while I tried to punch the splined shaft back without damaging. Won't budge one way or the other.
I didn't have any time to mess with it really today as I had to work and then got home after a dinner...
So how do I get it off? I've been yanking on it with pliers. Trying to pry it out etc. I see this tool:
KD Tools 2251 - Hub Puller | O'Reilly Auto Parts
But I don't want to spend that much (around $230) for a tool I'm only going to use once.
