That is fine as long as the bearing on the bottom is not bad or if either pin is not scored and worn. I have had to replace the upper king pin on several customers trucks.
You don't need a whole power pack, just a transmission. I don't think I will try rebuilding that one, by the time you buy all the bearing and syncronizers it would be cheaper to buy another transmission. I have rebuilt a couple of them, they are not a lot of fun to get apart, have band-aids...
As I have been for years I am awed by your work. Now the big question, how much do you figure all of that which you have added weighs? Your steel supplier must love you and I would love to see your metalworking equipment. Bending and cutting steel that size that cleanly takes some serious...

In any business reliability and parts availability is everything. I don't think you have either with the military truck plus the parts, when you find them, will be expensive. I second the pick-up and trailer. Does not really have to be diesel, when you compare the price of gas to diesel and then...
Looking at that picture again I see that the generator head is towards the tongue and it also looks like the engine is ahead of the axle as well with only the control unit on the back side of the axle. If that is the case you probably could mount a fairly large tank on the back. Problem is that...
