And ENTIRE WEEK without a new post? I doubt that.....
Well, the numbering system is off, that wasn't the 4th mini rally of this year, just the 4th mini rally.
I guess that IT is out in the open now, we can move on
To the next rally.
Yeah, never know when they will be, and just how much of a difference it will make.
IF I get one of these trucks to work, and when they get made, I would seriously consider getting them. Even a small mpg savings can add up fast.
You could put a civy slider 5th wheel, so you can have each different trailer as FAR forward as possible.
Still, with it that far back, I wouldn't haul much of anything that was either heavy, or would bounce much.
If you have a longer trailer, you can help it out by loading all the weight over...
I have to admit, that seemed to have gone very well!
I give a hand to all those that chipped in and helped out (I just helped myself to some good grub!)
It looked like it went pretty smooth, and that engine definitely sounds good, starts great, and should be a great heart transplant. Way to go...
Yeah, if I could get the gearing changed, and an 18 speed transmission, then some commercial 24.5 wheels/tires, it would be a good setup.
But that is a bit of change to do right off the bat.
I KNOW I will like the truck. I am just trying to justify it by the numbers.
Cause it seems that the 915...
Well, after talking to a few more guys, it seems like 'really good' mpg would be 5.5 to 6 mpg. Those are some pretty new trucks that are getting mpg like that. But they are grossing 105,500 lbs.
Thing is, I cannot put BIG tires on a 920 and haul a chip trailer without being over height. I will...
I got all my stuff from GL.
69, 71 and 71 M35a2s and M109A3 from Kliever Armory.
M818 from Barstow.
M1009 from French Camp.
Lots of trailers and other stuff from Ft Lewis and Sierra Depot (Herlong, CA).
A GOOD air ride seat would be one of the first things to go in it.
It would be a 'home daily' type of setup. So no need for the sleeper (at first anyways.)
And I know, the LEOs don't like the motel idea, as they can't prove anything more then you having a receipt (which I don't see as much...
Soni, here in WA (and OR, ID and MT I think.) 105,500 before permits, but it is all based on bridge weights above 80k.
Of course the cost of registration goes up drastically above 80k.
So it is the drop axle part that ups the weight for me, otherwise the 916 could technically have the same...
Thank you guys! Empirical data to work from.
I figured it would be easy to run 80k with the 915, but if I got the 920, then I can bump the GCWR up to 105,500. Figuring that the mpg will drop with the added weight and axles, etc, I was trying to figure out if it was worth it, and could I still...
I think the M915A2 is the biggest step up, with the detriot 60 series. Can't remember which transmission it has though.
Doesn't really matter though, as neither of those are really available.
I understand that these trucks will get less mpg. I just wanted to know how much less, to see if it...
I don't expect to get great mileage like the newer stuff.
But I was asking to see what people WERE getting. I know there are a number of these trucks being used fairly regularly to haul some pretty heavy loads.
I have a few ideas for using them that would make them a nice starting truck for an...
Yeah, Josh has it right.
I KNOW about running an 80k load.
I know about mileage for big rigs.
I figured the M915 should be fairly close to most of the trucks of that time. Between 4 to 6 mpg loaded, depending on circumstances.
But I wasn't sure what the auto in the A1 would change it to, and how...
I was trying to figure a few things out, and I wanted to try and compare mpg on the trucks, as close to apples to apples as it could get.
Loaded, being around 80k gross (or more, but 80k for a solid comparison.)
And the 915 could be the older with the cat 7155 transmission and the A1 with the...
Yeah, doubt it will happen for a bit either. Trying to find a place to buy, and that never leaves anything left over for 'toys'...
BUT, if things go right, I will at least have ROOM for my toys!
