    Master cylinder pressurized?

That brass "plug" may be a sintered brass vent. The center of it is a sintered filter element to keep dirt out.

I fought the deuce and the deuce won

I pulled a door off at Glen's (91w350) place in Salina and it fought hard. I found a bit in my toolbox that was the right size, BIG, and had extra lobes in between the regular phillips lobes. I put that in a socket on an extension, smacked it with a hammer to seat it and was able to get them...

Has anyone swapped a light duty truck cab onto a Deuce chasis?

Interestingly, there were some changes to the cabs through the years. The 73's did not come with drip rails above the doors, nor did they have provisions for shoulder belts. They also used a glass fuse blocks. That I can tell the shoulder belts, ATC? fuses, and drip rails changed for the...

After losing a wheel and almost my life...

Remember that on a proper rim/hub system the studs should not be carrying any weight. The wheel should tightly pilot onto a matching projection on the hub. The studs and nuts are simply to hold the wheel onto that pilot. Aftermarket wheels may eliminate this feature and are therefor asking...

Start of my crane truck project

Well, I haven't updated this thread in a while, but progress is slowly occurring. My wife and I live debt free, so I have to save up along the way for projects like this. As a background, I bought three of these cranes as a package deal. My original plan was to resell two of them to pay for...

    Big Rock Moving thru SoCal

What was the truck at the very front? Very impressive. Reuters article said the trailer was 294 ft long. I cannot imagine navigating that around LA. Article also said they had two 600 HP trucks, one front and one pushing, but that video looks like they needed a little more help than two.

    Broken Turbo Studs

Well, it is my turn to join the broken stud group. I am trading my C turbo straight up with Clinto for a D turbo. I soaked my fasteners with penetrating oil in the days before the planned removal, but the nut on the front left stud actually cracked and took the threads off of the stud with...

Need ASAP Exhaust Manifold to Turbo Gasket OVERNIGHT Shipping

Just goes to show you there is a big difference between CAT dealers. I got 2 sets of 3 for $18.40 after tax and thought I was doing good. I am concerned though that the oil drain gasket is the wrong size. On my White 465-D the oil drain tube has less than .100" of sealing surface on the...

Car hauling Deuce and a half

I have hauled a Datsun 280z and an old toyota corolla. The corolla was going to the scrappers, so I unloaded it by backing up quickly and stomping on the brakes.

    Disabling your deuce

The deuce will start in gear, and you can shift without a clutch, though it is oddly harder to do in the deuce than in bigger trucks.

    Disabling your deuce

I have been thinking about, but haven't yet tried, a big C-clamp to clamp the parking brake shoes together. If you have ever had your parking brake stick, you know how effective this would be.

Starting my deuce after 5 year storage

Shoot, half the things we do to these trucks are just to satisfy things in our head. :D Just look at the posts on fuel additives. Oh well, keeps me busy and I sleep well at night.

Starting my deuce after 5 year storage

Really? Nobody thinks it is necessary to try and get some oil to the top end or rings after sitting for 5 years in a hot location? I agree others have made good points for why not to change the oil immediately, but my reason for draining the oil was to flood the valvetrain during the refill...

Starting my deuce after 5 year storage

Being as all of the oil has drained to the bottom of the pan, I would change the oil on the spot. Then, the process of refilling the oil will apply a little bit of oil to the valvetrain. Pull out the fuel cut-off and crank until you have oil pressure. More unconventionally, You could also...

Algae oil grown in continous photobioreactor.

I am simply not seeing the claims for algae oil coming true. Yes, it produces oil, but it is on the order of a fraction of a percent. If you process enough of it, you can get the oil, but the energy return is horrible. Ethanol is far better than you are making it out to be. 600...

    Battery Charging

That will work dandy as long as they are equivalently rated(amps) and are not "smart chargers" It may even work if they are smart chargers, I just can't promise the outcome. I used these instructions to make myself a dandy 12/24V "dumb" charger...

    Battery Charging

I would not do that. The charge rates(voltage and current) are different for Lead acid vs Lithium. Lead acids like to be topped off and maintain a trickle vs Lithium batteries charge then shut-off completely.

What thread to repair bed cover?

I found a braided fiber fishing line that was fairly heavy, super strong, and even dark green. I used it to resew my cab top.

Westfolk's Steel Oil Spin On Adapters

Understood. Pressure differential is a great way to measure whether to change filters. However, if you only have one gauge, you don't have differential. You are instead left trying to remember what the pressure had been under similar conditions before and this guessing whether the pressure you...
