Gas stations along the ALCAN are fairly regular, but I don't know about the availability of diesel. When I drove south from Fairbanks in June 2011 I drove a gas Dodge 2500 pulling a trailer and only had a fuel issue once. On the eastern edge of BC a station I planned to stop at closed earlier...
 Well that must be some kind of record. It went from just arrived at home but not running, to ruined motor in less than 24 hours?
Sorry to hear about your truck. Hopefully it's not as bad as you think it is. What's the story?
It could have been in service long enough to get the newer taillights. A lot of old equipment gets squirreled away and hangs around in service long enough to outlive the majority of the type. Good luck with contacting the owner. Too many times I've passed by something cool and never tried to do...
It's a 2.5 ton truck, but not a deuce in the traditional sense. That's not a bad looking M135, looks like it'd be a worthwhile acquisition for someone with the know-how and time to fix it. I hope someone can save it from a rusty death.
RT-1439s are good to go. There are no crypto modules to remove. The 1439 is the non-icom SINCGARS. They required a KY-57 or KY-99 to operate encrypted. You're probably thinking of RT-1523s. 1523B/C/E/F have integrated crypto modules and are required to be demilled. Fortunately the cryptographic...
PRC-6809 is the clear (non-type 1) export version of the PRC-148 MBITR. They're pretty rare. Direct from Thales they went for about $5800 a few years ago. When MBITR crypto modules are removed it renders the radio inoperable. I wouldn't touch a working MBITR on the private market. You can be...
Brian Stilwell of B&R trucking out of Flint, MI has moved my truck a couple of times. He was always the best rate I could find. Search here on SS or on the web and you'll get more info for Brian.
Nope. SINCGARS can be used with VIC-1, VIC-2, or VIC(VIS)-3 as well as a whole mess of different speakers. LS-671 and LS-454 are probably the most common.
That's exactly the idea. However, it does take a large blast to relieve an MRAP of it's running gear. Getting out of the kill zone was a design consideration, but they will deflect a blast at the expense of all the external components.
I can't imagine the deputies in the Caiman are the only deputies responding to the incident if said incident required an armored vehicle. I don't know the intricacies of all the MRAP variants, but it could also be a self-sealing tank. The fuel tank is probably a relatively insignificant...
From Korea? Shipping is going to be killer. I don't think it will fit in a flat rate box. :)
Or is it from the Korean War era? If it's a '53 that'd make it a very early one.
Either way, that's a very cool find.
