I used an air hammer AKA rivet gun with a sharpen 5/8 or so wide chisel bit. One or two second "burps" across the head or tail of rivet and done. Sheared them all off fast and easy quick. Then tap shank out with punch and peen hammer. No elongated holes, sharp chips, sore muscles. More...

If your dash gauges are up to snuff (voltmeter) couldn't be any easier GO/NO GO. I would go a step further and make sure ALL connections are clean and tight . As been stated over and over, Grounds connections are important ! ⚡The other half of the circuit is.? ? You guessed it the positives...

Answer to question NO. What part shown is aluminium? Fins yes, tubing rusted, NO. Not aluminum, steel. Check it with a magnet. Remove and replace $$$$ or pull it out., clean it up real REAL good and see what you really have going on. Good radiator shop should handle it for less $ IMO...

IMO... the fix here was a new balancer. If I follow correctly, the on and off, back and forth was becoming a problem. Sure it could work in some cases... if lucky.
And to add, something to check on these old engines.

This has been one crazy thread. Like many, I have installed and removed a few balancer's. Google and Utube it. There are some tricks, tools and techniques... and some right in line with this thread and some well... Welding and glue... Not so sure that's the answer. It's all about the...
