It is just the brand. You can get it at almost any hardware store, or paint supply place. It is a jelly that smells incredibly strongly of ammonia. It will burn your skin if you don't get it off quickly. I advise gloves.
What is important is that you realize that this generator "set" as it is referred to, since it is a special unit, includes the trailer. Once separated/ modified, it is never the same. It needs to stay together, but far be it from me to tell you what to do with your unit. It looks to me like it...
EWA, talk to Carnac about the radio stuff. He has a lot of what you are looking for including the VIC-1 components. Some of it is even listed in the classifieds right now.
You will get some cheap Asian junk no matter who or where you buy from. That includes NAPA. Of all the ones I've gotten from napa, I've only gotten a couple that were American made.
The Asian ones aren't that bad. They last a couple years. Just don't get gear oil or grease on their dust boots...
Get some aircraft paint remover, dab it onto the painted plates with a small paintbrush, watch the paint bubble up in a minute or two, then wipe it off and spray it off with a water hose. That will leave the plates clean and free of paint, but won't hurt the original colorant of the plates.
Serial #67? A rare piece like that, with such a low serial number, I wouldn't tear it apart.
Someone will be along that can tell exactly what it is and what it was for.
I'm betting there weren't more than 100 or 200 of these made, otherwise I'd have some idea what it is.
Guys, we know these trucks pretty well. From the looks of it, that truck would need some love to get it to fire up, of course sometimes they surprise us. Looks like it has been sitting for a while, and I've never seen a thief that would lug two batteries along with them. My bet is that it left...
Looks like a solid rig to start with. You will likely need to just replace the wheel cylinders, as water settles in them and pits the inside surfaces to a point where they can't be rebuilt. They can be had as low as $25 each if you shop around. Spend the money on brakes before you spend it on...
It helps if you have the machine tool to do it, but it can be done with a hammer and punch, or anvil. It really is easy. Getting the old rivets drilled out is the hardest part. If memory serves, the friction pads run about $13 per wheel end, and the rivets are cheap too.
That is part of what gives Marines more character. Doing a fine job with less equipment, and getting the things they need, but don't have by other fun and interesting means. I have heard stories that nearly made me bust a gut.
It reads faster than actual speed. Verified by Welldigger with GPS well before my engine swap and overdrive install. None of that changes the speedometer reading though, as it reads from the transfer case.
Looks like once I get my G177s put on it will be fairly close, as per your research.
Velence, the 5 ton adapters do fit the deuce transfer case. I have one that came off of an 817 on mine, and with worn 11.00 NDTs it seems to read 3-5 mph fast on the speedometer.
