right rob, it should be that easy, the hh turns once for every two crank revolutions. so if everything else is right, just getting that gear cutout in the right position so the hh drops right in should be exactly right. it should look like it is centered, evenly spaced so to speak.
of course...
not all marks are timing marks!!! the red tooth mark is not a timing mark, just a positioning mark. sounds just like the head is in 180 out of time. that is exactly what they do, low power and lots of smoke. do not run it that way it is hard on the pistons etc. remove the front valve cover, turn...
first, you want to use the type of extracter that is a tapered square. you can cut off the top part that is too long to fit in and just leave enough to get a small wrench on the end. press it into the fitting carefully with a large pry bar while turning it out. i know it is close but i would...
the spline is 36, the minor dia is 7/8", it is a straight spline, no taper but is is a tight fit hence the puller. i have always been able to just 'pull' them off with a little wiggling.
i have new 18" wheels and have 'heard' of a 15" wheel but it has been elusive to track down.

interesting thread, but if you are this concerned, move out now. if tshf, where are you going? go there sooner. spend your money more wisely, i.e bullets, food, etc. in the event of a REAL emergency, there will be no possible way the roads will be clear and traffic moving. in short this is a...
sometimes other methods work, sometimes they give false info. the simple math formula for this is :
mph = ( rpm * radius) / ( 168 * ratio)
using loaded radius is more accurate, ratio is final drive ratio including trans, rears, etc.
tom
not sure what tire size you are really going to use so i did the math with radius being 21", trans with lockup converter, 4.90 diffs. 2200 rpm would be 56.1 mph, 2500 rpm would be 63.7 mph. still think it would be worth it? i think only if you really want to keep the auto.
with 4.90 rears and...
if i recall correctly, the pan gasket is 4 pieces so what came off may have been ok. the only place there should be a small amount of rtv is in the corners of the front gasket where it meets the pan gasket. everywhere else should be a thin film of permatex 3H. people who just use gobs of rtv...
yet i can post a link to my own listing in certain cases? same net problem. possibly the best way to ask about something on an auction is not to say it is on an auction, but to just ask a specific question about its suitability.
tom
actually it is a power converter. an inverter changes ac to dc or dc to ac. a siren will easily draw close to 10 amps at 12 volts, the 100 watts is just the output to the speaker.
the best bang for the buck would be a vanner equalizer for 24 volt systems with a 50 amp rating.
what harm in the...
the only part that could be a variable would be the trans. everything else is on the net or ebay. of course you will have to factor in shipping, but that is a constant.

what is a good 6 speed allison? if you are thinking of a 3060, it is 1: too big 2: electronic and would be a problem to program. any smaller allison would not handle the engine.
3053 trans $200
gear set $1300
clutch $300
flywheel $200
driveshaft $150?
linkage etc $150?
do it yourself you could only have $2500 in it.
does it increase the value of the truck?
i know of one being done now so we will see how it goes.
tom
no problem. but so what if it did, 'hit', i prefer touch, but so what? there are 10,000 times it would be real nice to have power steering and 4 times you may be limited on how hard you can turn to the right! also there are solutions to this such as a custom pitman arm etc.
it is turned to lock on flat ground but even in worst case it would not hit hard enough to be a problem. the wheel choice pretty much dictates clearance. with my custom wheels it clears by about 2 " using 14.5R20XL
