I just put a 100 gallon aux tank where Clint put his toolbox. No more fuel woes for me. Well... There weren't until my towbar slid into the bottom corner of it and cracked a weld...
I keep two water cans on the right side of the aux tank and an empty fuel can on the driver step mount.
If I can order 15-25 units at a time, I can get the price per unit down to around $225. This does not include the seal or shipping though.
I have seen group buys go south a few times on this forum and it makes me pretty uncomfortable. I NEED to do a group buy in because I can't afford to buy...
The plate and tube is a wash. We already discussed it and there is too much room for error, especially where we are already trying to stop a leak. The issue I have running it in aluminum is that it doesn't wear as well as steel, and the throw out bearing moves on this shaft a whole lot. Aluminum...
I would like a shirt. It is nice to coordinate times with the museum because that gives us a lot more access to swap meet type stuff. I really enjoyed all the different parts and cool stuff offered for sale there.
Progress: On a Haas CNC lathe. This is number one, first cut from real steel. The machinist is also a member here and a good friend of mine. He quoted me at $600 material and machine time for one piece at a time, but the more I order the cheaper it gets. 5-10 pieces gets it down around the high...
That's funny. I found a piece of a shim in the rear axle when I changed the oil in it, but it has no problems or end play yet. Nothing in the oil on the intermediate.
Dude, I think you got me wrong. I'm not trying to be a d*ck. You've done good work there, and by all means do what you want to your truck. All I'm saying is that chrome and camo don't mix well. Kinda like painting a house purple with pink polka dots.
I don't know what your future plans are for...
Well I tightened it as much as I am comfortable doing, and it still has more movement than I like. I must have battered the bearings out of spec. I did not think to get the number off of the race while I had the seal retainer off either, and the bearing and race numbers are not in the quick...
Yes I did, thoroughly before I took the first fastener off. The shims adjust the preload, but the bearing retention collar presses onto the cross shaft to retain the tapered bearings against the shims. My rear pinion nut was installed loosely and it looks like that gave room for the collar to...
Took the rear seal retainer off and inspected the bearing. No sign of failure, no metal dust or shavings, oil was clean. I went ahead and replaced the rear pinion seal on this axle because it has been leaking. Put it all back together and went to town on both pinion nuts with my 1" impact, but...
My intermediate axle has lost the pinion preload and given me a vibration. I've done about 800-900 miles in the past five days and the bearings have not burned up on me and it hasn't gotten any worse so I'm fairly sure the bearings are not bad, just lost the preload. I understand that this is...
That's crazy man. Mine is the old style holder, not the scepter holder, and all 13 of my cans fit quite well. They fit snug, but not tight where I have to wedge them in. Try putting one in with fuel in it, the extra weight might help you get it in easier.
I heard once that these trucks were only built to last a month on the battlefield. I know for fact that they were built quickly and cheaply. If it was something they deemed important to last they would have made it from stainless. It is just a lucky side effect that our trucks last as long as...
That's so funny. My deuce got as good or better mileage than your 1031.
Im just glad I made it home without my intermediate axle coming apart. I think it may have just lost the preload, so I'm going to try to tighten the rear yoke up and see how it does. I appreciate you running with me anyway.
Chrome has no place on a military vehicle. I'm not here to bash you man, but you shoulda bought a freightliner or something. You certainly will be taken a lot less seriously with that stack on there.
