how do you figure #6 is the last to get oil?? all mains are oiled from a large main galley, and then rods are oiled from mains. you are talking milliseconds here. when you start the engine, unless it has sat for years, it still has enough oil for idle speed, it is not 'dry'.
35 year old rods...
if you spend the big $$$ for a new top, get the ones in the wood crate as they are galvenized. if you get the ones in box primered white, be prepared to strip it and re prime as there does not appear to be any prep before they primered and it flakes off.

with final drive ratio swap, you affect all gears in trans, with 5th gear swap you don't. makes a huge difference in usefullness to still have off road gears and a more normal od instead of the limited .78 they come with.

the 4.90 set would be useless in a deuce. do the math, these are for high hp hill climbers etc. there have always been other ratios for the rockwells, a higher ratio is used in the a3.
i have a shop in pa now setting up to make .69 od gear sets. this has been a long road, but maybe this...
at least 3 members here have put cat 3208 engines in including myself. by 9 litre i was referring to the V8 of the mid 80's, just about the right size and power.
#1 reason not to do it: 3053 is a 300 ft lb transmission, it's tough but is already being stressed. as for the overdrive issue, just hold your breath a little longer, it's still on the way.
i would use a 9 litre international from the mid 80's

if the syncro looks torn up there is something major wrong and you need to remove the mainshaft to examine it. this can be done with the trans in the truck, but i suspect you have more problems than you realize.

norwegian air lockers: as on the m-621
special shaft on both sides as they are larger in od, long spline on the long side special carrier with dogs to engage sliding collar. don't know what you mean about maintaince, i have never done anything to mine and they always engage, light on dash to...
to a great extent you are all mostly right. it's all in how you look at it and how you understand it. in a deuce with air pressure up, the primary master cyl does NOT apply the brakes, it only controls the pressure regulator to the air pack. so in this instance it could be called air over hyd...
i have been thinking about making custom 4 valve heads for the MF, but they would be VERY expensive. at least then you could probably get up to the 400 hp area.......

sorry dittle, you are wrong. running as fast as the govenor will go will result in broken engine. some trucks with tuning issues or non turbo may not go there but turbo engines should easily. 2600 is MAX safe rpm, i would run a little less. i set my gov at 2550 and it will easily stay there if...
hi, being a m-35 person, i only know the m-1009 from a distance. but i do know of most of it's civilian counter parts weaknesses. so, is it possible to find one with NO rust around the edges of things??
