    Paint Information (Codes and Sources)

AWESOME READ AND AWESOME IDEA TO USE BEHR PAINT... BUT: As of November 25, 2018, I'm totally confused by this thread. Seems like the thread goes back to 2013. Some later posts say formulations have changed (seem like some time around 2016?). Other posts say use 5 digit codes. Other posts give...

    Duramax vs Cummins HMMWV Conversions

I HATE CUMMINS SWAPS! DEEP HATRED! Hate them in LandCruisers. Hate them in HMMWV's. Always fitment issues. Always need to jack up springs and lift body to make the f'ing things fit. Always gotta avoid an axle. ALWAYS MACHINING SOME ****ED THING that can't be found or has become "unobtainium"...

Will a OEM H1 Brush Guard Fit a HMMWV?

When you post to this site, please consider uploading the pictures so in a few years, the pics are not lost and people reading the thread can also benefit from your question(s). Welcome and enjoy your rig. T

Is it hard to cross border in an old HMMWV from USA to Canada and back?

I have a slantback with functioning turret, but will not be carrying any firearms or contraband! I lived and worked as an American on work visa in Canada for well over a decade so customs and such is never an issue. I don't smoke Maryjane so that should also not be an issue. Me thinks I will...

Looking to customize my shifter knob if possible?

First of all, it looks like you have a three speed, so you have a round shaft for your shifter. That's a good start. Grenade shape should be easy on a lathe, or just get a wood or plastic ball and cut a hole in it with a drill press or a wood drill or circular hole drill. Cut holes to size...

Best mechanical transfer case with 2WD option for HMMWV

Yeah, I guess hub disconnects might be impossible. Thanks guys!

So, what's the one thing you'd change?

Pictures of the represented vehicles on each forum: Not all of us are military or ex-military. Sometimes looking at pics to learn the vehicle, and then reading about stuff we might never own is fun. Placing pics or diagrams of the vehicles and such as a sticky on top of the individual forums...

Best mechanical transfer case with 2WD option for HMMWV

1987 Slantback with 6.2 and currently with TH-400. So, about to do a lot of stuff, and I figured if I'm gonna do a Bowtie 700R4 swap to my Slantback, I might as well consider swapping in a 2WD capable transfer case. I want to do highway vacation driving, so 2WD should help with MPG relief...

Just purchased and await delivery of M1102 with fiberglass top. Wanna make a camper.

M1102 TAN with Fiberglass top, CAMO. 1) Is there a good thread about routine maintenance and essential upgrades? 2) What is best paint and supplier to paint tan CARC to Green with added Camo? I would prefer all one color, and my HMMWV is Camo too. 3) Any threads particularly devoted to M1102...

Is it hard to cross border in an old HMMWV from USA to Canada and back?

1987 Slantback. I read elsewhere that driving out of country can be an issue. Anyone drive to and from Ontario or Quebec from New York in a HMMWV? How's about with pulling a M1102 trailer? Any issues? I would like to use my rig as a truck to drag me from ski slope to slope.

Need to transport M1102w/fiberglass top from 27107 Zipcode to 11235 Zipcode

Purchased a M1102 with fiberglass military top. It is in good condition. It is full of equipment. It is currently in Salem, NC, 27107. I need it transported to my parking lot in Brooklyn, NY, 11235. It has a pintle. I can unload from shipping truck with my HMMWV if needs be. I've never used...

    Diagnosing Battery Drain

As promised in my PM, I found the link about several glow plug controllers being OK with several PCB's. Read the first and second post on this excellent PCB explanation thread. https://www.steelsoldiers.com/showthread.php?164930-PCB-EESS-SmartStart-S3-i-pics-info

How to bypass PCB? I am aware some HMMWV owners have done it. TOBASH

Now that I'm back from watching my Giant's win on Sunday AND from overeating turkey yesterday, I'm back to my project. I am wondering about the glow plug controllers. When I was a Saab guy, there was a doodad that acted as an actuator for an electric choke. It measured block temperature. When...

    Diagnosing Battery Drain

Over time, posts to photbucket die, and we're left with links in threads that go nowhere and get confusing. I have taken the liberty to upload Humveeholic's pic to the site. In general, posting to the SteelSoldiers site allows pics to remain "forever."

    Diagnosing Battery Drain

After reading through this thread, seems like RWH hit the nail on the head. It seems you're a new member here and perhaps entirely new to HMMWV's/M998's. WELCOME! The protective control box / PCB, when not properly functioning, will "kill" the vehicle, turning it into a paperweight. That...

Removing fuel tank; what am I doing wrong?

His system has been open to the elements for an unknown period of time, and he is unsure what crap got in there. I respect your experience BUT getting old fuel and contaminants out with a bleed was therefore suggested. If you still feel no bleed is necessary, I defer to your extensive...

Removing fuel tank; what am I doing wrong?

The best way to seal a hole in this stuff is to "weld" it with similar material and heat. I would buy a new tank if there are holes. This is not a gull wing Mercedes or Ferrari F40, so swapping in new parts is safer and better.

Removing fuel tank; what am I doing wrong?

Congrats on the success! Now is the time to grind back the Red Dot A/C screws. Make sure you did not crack the tank. Washout will take 5 minutes. After washout, LET IT DRY! Dry indoors in boiler room. You will need to bleed system, as mentioned above. Best, T
