I'm also working on the factory Cummins bracket which mounts an A/C compressor nicely on the belt also, given the prices of the A/C compressor bracket kits are going theough the roof, along with my hatred of V belts and manual tensioners. This bracket looks to be about $350, and would require a...
Unbeknown why, the military uses a widely spaced alternator bracket referred to as a J-180 "long", which traps us into using the somewhat unreliable and outdated $400 24V Prestolite 60 amp alternator.
Since the 8.3L engine is primarily a civilian use engine, I looked at the alternator mount on...
One foot of space where there was otherwise none is huge. It could be the difference of mounting an A/C evaporator outside or inside the cab (3rd seat loss).
If you don't plan on driving deep water, then you can simply remove the intake snorkel from the air cleaner housing on up. Exhaust...
The majority or all of those are going to be J-180 shorts. Most older MD and HD alternators are J-180 mount type, from most manufacturers, not just Delco. You can probably mount a short type alternator in a long type bracket, but I would use a grade 10.9 engine fastener when doing so.
I did...
The military factory alternator mount is called a J-180 "long" or "swung" type mount (8" between double ears). It is mostly only used on bus engines in the US and Europe in the civilian market. I have brand new 145 amp 24V alternators that are direct bolt in and go for this mount. Also have a...

SS member in MI sells them both for a reasonable price, sorry I forgot his name, but why not try to keep $ in the family first?
The heater blower "LO" side of the blower switch is power by 12V through the dash battery switch from 1/2 the battery bank. Tap that, and your circuit will shut off when the truck is shut down. Gravy job, with nothing to buy.
Don't use stainless steel on a mobile application. Stainless is one of my favorite materials, but mobile fuel tanks are typically made of softer metal so they don't crack. Stainless steel is prohibited from use in marine fuel tanks specifically for this reason. I'm not sure, but the Mack ones...
I would not do a cross over due to the possibility of overflow on the lower tank if you park on the side of a hill. My tank is always empty anyway, but just sayin'....
Can I bother somebody with the military A/C add on kit to PM me? I'd like to see the inside of the evaporator box, to see if it could be mounted horizontally with vents pointing down such as on the cab roof. I have seen it here mounted horizontally with vents pointing up in another thread.
I...
