I have run mine in the snow and through a ditch. Both times the front wheels pulled. I even tested on ice just to see. The front axle sprag should lock in any time the rear wheels slip, in any gear. There is a test in here somewhere about jacking up a front wheel and it should only turn one way...
To me I don't really see any difference. We drive both in the car show events here and traffic is unreal. My 5 ton does have power steering, but other than that, cant really see much difference.
You got to remember these engines were designed to run hard as set up with some 18 yr old behind the wheel and run on and on and on. You can modify how you like , its yours of course. I'm just saying they are tough as is. I know from experience, had the same M813 in my platoon for 2 1/2 years...
In my experience with [loaded]medium duty trucks, Cat, Detroit, Ford and Cummins engines. None of them are a ball of fire. They will all get the job done, but not at a fast pace.
John, lot of history in that post. I would have liked to have had one of those 1500 new A2s in 29 palms in the early 80's. Ours were mostly beat up pretty good. Before Humvees of course.
Tree stumps are unreal to pull out sometimes. I like the push over whole tree with excavator method!!! 8) I'm sure you know if going to pull out need to do a lot of digging and cutting roots.
Don't forget 2 window stops that have to be removed on the bottom of the window [2 Phillips screws each]. I'm taking it you have the access panel off and the regulator disconnected. Its not hard at all. Tm's do help a lot and wheelspinner pointed you in right direction.
oh boy hole in hole pan? I think I'd look into that before I worked on the air portion of the brakes. Could be damage from a fork lift or some metal pieces being slung around. But I think before I looked at other stuff I'd address the engine issues, Just saying.
Usually a seized engine is a "friction" type lock. In other words spun/seized bearings or piston rings stuck to the walls{rust} etc. Hydro locking can be coolant/fuel or oil, but usually coolant. But I have seen all 3 before. [different engines] Getting water in the fuel either gas or diesel may...
Welcome to the club from the across the Bay!! In case you haven't found them yet, there are tons of links here to Tm's on your truck.
Where did it come from? if you don't mind me asking. Just the snow plow bracket has me curious. Happy motoring!!!:driver:
Not to be smart but this motor is just about like any other diesel internal combustion engine. What makes you think rear head gasket is blown?
defiantly make sure fuel shut off is off before baring over!! good luck

If the winch is pulling parts off the truck then I would call that OE (Operator Error). If you use the designated winching points you should be pretty safe in regards to recovery the vehicle without pulling parts off. But if you fix the winch line to the bumper of a car and use the bumper to...
Congratulations on the truck. Growing up on the beach here have used ropes /straps a ton. I have several ropes that work very well and a lot of things you pull out aren't really stuck that bad...hopefully!!!!
Short story, We are building my youngest son a house and I was on the property by...
I know this post is about straps, but I am kind of partial to the winch for something really stuck. Slow and steady without snatching the crap out of something. Although I've seen a winch pull truck parts off as well.
