I got some through Rock Auto a while back. About $60 for the pair (plus shipping). Their shipping is pretty reasonable, but I was ordering some other stuff anyway, so the shipping was not a factor for me. I'm sure any of the local parts stores can get them for about the same. Mine haven't...
Wow! That is a MAJOR job unless your swapping everything in the harness (still lots of work). I'm surprised they would bother with a hack over an entire swap.
It does make me wonder why they would have hand-made a plate, when they obviously had all of the right info for it? Where did they get the info, if they did not have an original plate (i.e. the GM part #)???
As far as I know, all M1028A1's, A2's, and A3's were conversions. An M1028A3 would have been a converted M1028 (which the 5077 NSN confirms). The M1028A2 is a converted M1028A1. And, the M1028A1's were converted M1031's. They should all have an MWO plate stating they were converted into...
The A2/A3 should have a rear swaybar, but, given the overload springs are gone, they might have just left it off, too. Or, they might have converted it using spare parts. They've been known to do that as well.
Dual tanks is an add-on. A NICE add-on, I might add!
When a dealer pays over 6K for a bunch of 813's, there is certainly an order to fill. Don't get spoiled by low prices and hold off too long, or you'll end up with no truck. It's like cheap oil in the 90's. It ain't gonna last forever.
Looks to be the correct 70HD with 3.5" tubes. 70HD should be cast into that lower right web. No overload springs or swaybar, though? Does it have a locker in it?
If the pump makes vacuum, check the rubber lines at the tranny and vacuum valve (pass side of the IP). Also, try to adjust the vacuum valve. Rotate the top of it all the way toward the rear of the truck and test drive it. If it makes it better (or shifts too soon now), you need to adjust it. If...
The topic should have just been locked. Everyone enjoys their freedom of speech, even when asked to keep quiet.
But, starting another thread to talk about the fact that no one could stop talking about the other thread (and essentially continuing the conversation) is better, how?
I'm gonna agree with Bottleworks. It is ridiculous to have Sticky's outnumber the regular threads on the page. And monitor resolution doesn't matter. I don't spend a lot of time in the deuce forum, since I don't currently own one, but it is annoying.
If these threads are all so desired as...
Dirty terminals? Clean the inside of the cable ends and the posts of the batteries with a brush. I had a truck that had some grease on the terminals and they had to be TIGHT to get good cranking power. Apparently, that grease was non-conducting...
The VIN is M1008/M1008A1.
14-bolt rear is only on SRW trucks. Dana 70HD is in the M1028A2/A3.
A2/A3 trucks have rear swaybar
M1028A2's are converted M102A1's, which are converted M1031's
M1028A3's are converted M1028's.
I doubt it has the extra overload spring on the rear axle above the rest of...
Lots of possibilities, but given no rear sway bar is visible, I would say it was converted using civvy parts into a dually. Is it a 14-bolt, or a Dana 70HD? Check to see if the rear has a locker.
How hard did you try to move it. It is spring loaded, if I remember (haven't moved mine in a while), so it takes some good pressure to switch it. It'll "snap" into the next position.
Always shift into 1st after reverse. Never go right to second or other forward gear from reverse. Don't drift backwards when starting off. The sprag doesn't like it.
Download the operator manual from this site and spend some time with it. Also, look at PS magazine articles on the 800 series...
