I have lived by the old saying "chrome don't get you home" and I agree with Peter it isn't pretty, but it does work flawlessly. I used this setup for approx. 12-15 hours for back-up. Storms and living in the woods doesn't always keep the lights on. I tried to go back and see the cost of parts...
Peter, if there is a possibility that the 054 is damaged, I will not replace it with another one. I am only trying to have this for emergency use until I can get the VR shipped and rebuilt. Is there any way to check the unit without having to buy anything else? Am I beating a dead horse? I don't...
resistor- Dale CW-5 56 ohm 5% 8815
diode- 1n5406 MIC
Circuit now goes 24vdc off circuit breaker on rear of control panel-momentary push button-button to resistor- resistor to diode- diode to F1 (grey stripe end)
F2 to chassis ground
When button pushed 24.9vdc on meter.
Nothing else in circuit...
A to C .8 volts, F1to F2 .003vdc running with main contactor on, pushbutton pushed and released.
Not running 24vdc @ pushbutton 1.7 volt across F1-F2 with button down. I looked and don't have a 24v relay unless there is one in the old vr box.
Thanks for the reply, I will start back on it this morning. I don't have a 24v relay here, will try to get one from Caterpillar tomorrow if i can. There aren't any supply houses close by have to order everything. I will get the voltage measurements you asked for. Thanks, again, Mike
I think I'm in over my head. Is there a simple way to test gen leads with a voltmeter to make sure gen is still good? As much as I would like to keep what I have, if the gen is bad, would I not be better off to replace it with a more modern gen head? Power was off again for 5 hours this morning...
Gentlemen, I am working on information given to me by a member jamawieb. He said he had used this set up with the ADVR 54 and the momentary push button, diode and resistor on different generators. Long story short start switch corroded a lug and had to replace. Worked after replacement. Future...
