If it was on Mon Apr 30, Tues May 1 or Tues May 2 then I may be able to make it. I should be on vacation but still in town then. If I can make it, then I'll be particularly looking for M939-series stuff, especially a cab hard top.
I had a throttle spring break on my M109A3 once, too. I was on my way to visit another MV guy to pick up a shelter I was buying from him, so I gave him a call and he brought a spring that he picked up along the way. [thumbzup]
Hmm, with all of the talk about proper spelling and grammar here, I...
I don't have anything against the Cat or C&H switches, but I got the Pollak one on eBay for $28 with free shipping. The seller still has more. I can send a link by PM if searching doesn't turn it up. I bought a few, since I've been using these same switches for a long time.
Now, if you already...
I probably could have worked around the lid, but I think it would have been just as difficult. Instead of working around the lid to get the lid off, I'd have been working around the lid to make the holes and install the switch and cables. Having the lid off already made it a lot easier to get...
McMaster will make up hydraulic hoses with 37 degree JIC fittings installed. I don't know about AN fittings, but I didn't look that carefully. Search on "hose", and the custom-assembled hoses are listed along with the bulk hose.
Took a lot of pain to get to this point. It looks like I'll need to cut/grind a little clearance on either the switch marking plate or the seat hinge. I made the 3/4" main hole for the switch with a knockout punch (3/4" actual diameter, not pipe trade diameter), and I made the pilot hole with a...
FINALLY! I got the cover cut out. I don't think I'll be finishing the whole project today, but at least I've made some progress: I got both seats out of the truck so that the local wildlife can nest in the cushions until next weekend. :-?
Ok, time to go make some new holes...
BTW, I'm using a Pollak 51-916 switch. The one pictured above looks like it may be the Caterpillar switch that many folks like? They both look similar in construction. I got my switch on eBay. PM me if you want the link; not posting it here since it is frowned upon to post short lived links.
Thanks for the pictures! That is pretty close to what I plan to do.
An update:
I pressed the spare tire davit into service to help me lower the driver's seat out of the cab, and then tried using a small combination wrench as a porkchop to get the screws out. Nope, wrench keeps falling off. So...
If you are getting 24V at all 8 of the glow plug wires, and the battery voltage isn't dropping when they're engaged, then that sounds like they're open circuits to me. I don't know why they might have burned out.
If you unplug each wire and measure the unplugged glow plug's resistance to ground...
That, and I have no doubt that AM General is an equal-opportunity employer. They probably had a pair of tentacle-armed midgets do the job.
Ok, I had my nice long nap (an important part of my weekend fun!), and now I'll see if they come out with a combination wrench hanging off the...
Please forgive me, but I feel the need to rant for a moment.
I'm installing a keyed battery disconnect switch in my M923, and I think that an ideal place for it is in the left wall of the battery box (which is also the passenger seat). It'll be reachable form the driver's seat, out of easy...
It's been many years since I had the rear engine cover off, so my memory may be broken. Are you saying there's a normal tach drive adapter in the vacuum pump hole, and then the tach sender screws onto that? That sounds almost familiar now that you mention it. Hmm. I'd go look at it right now...
Th HMMWV tach drive won't connect to a mechanical tachometer. It's an electrical sender. It's just a reed switch that's pulsed by a magnet attached to the shaft.
I bought one of those tachometers a few years ago, but I haven't installed it in my HMMWV yet. I don't know which variants of the vehicle it goes with, but it wasn't a standard part on the first generation HMMWVs. That tach sensor in the HMMWV's vacuum pump drive hole is an electrical sender...
I thought of something else to try out. I ordered samples of a few different sizes of those red tapered disposable plastic hole plugs/caps (Caplugs) . One of them should fit over the outside of the pipe, and one of the other two should fit inside the end. Maybe I'll just leave the pipe as it is...
So, the regular, open tube pointed to the right rear and slightly downwards does the best job of keeping stuff out?
I've wondered about this, too. Of course, some exhaust will come out that hole, too.
The muffler shop I went to had 4" pipe, but they didn't have the right kind of coupling flange, and I didn't want to cut up my bent pipe to harvest the coupler. So I put the bend back on and pushed dirt around with my Bobcat instead. :)
Maybe I'll cut the bent pipe to a different angle tomorrow.
