My deuce did 26mph up the cajon pass towing the m105 trailer. My m818 with the cummins 250 will do about 35mph up the pass. Just stay In the slow truck lane with flashers on.
The d turbo on mine will make some noise when I'm feathering the gas/clutch while backing up or parking. You can really hear it when the pass window is down. At idle you just hear the throaty sound of the exhaust.
I bought my deuce from a guy that won 2 bids and ended up with 2 trucks. He got them home and decided it was too much for him. I think I got a pretty fair deal $4500 for a USAF truck wo/w, hardtop/ heater, bows and cover.
This is In southern California, and I've seen pretty beat up trucks...
I can't maintain 55 on any grade with stock 9.00 ndt tires... We will see if it's any better after a fuel filter change and service.
As far as the turbo, I have a d turbo on my deuce and it's quiet till I get on the smoke pedal.
I have heard c turbo deuces and the turbo is always audible while...
With air to the sprag, neutral and reverse are the only positions that change the sprag engagement therefore you will only hear the air when going between neutral and reverse and not any forward gears. So neutral is still going to put the sprag in forward position and you don't want to roll...
I'm going this weekend to check out a m105a2.
As of now I do not know what the contents are in the trailer. The owner sent me pictures of what appears to be some sort of generator, pump or compressor. The owner does not know what it is, but claims it is military. Here are some pics, I'm very...
Took the deuce out to rasor rd for presidents weekend. Stopped in calico for a overnight stay Sunday on the way home. Friday I got my hose adapter so now I'm able to run air tools off the truck!
I haven't had my deuce jacked up yet.
My 5 ton on the other hand, I regularly am doing maintenence on the brake system and bearings. The 5 ton empty is over 20k lbs.
I'm wondering since I don't have a big floor jack, will the base touch the diff pan or does the center of the base hit the oil...
We're not dealing with cast metal center sections like on regular vehicles. Someone show me a Rockwell with a damaged diff pan from jacking. They are built pretty stout to be the lowest point on these trucks and the first thing to contact terra firma after the tires.
A jack point is a jack point. The drain plug is protected by the bung surrounding it. I've lifted my 5ton numerous times, even questioning picking it up there and have yet to see any type of fatigue on the diff.
On another note, that cribbing looks interesting in the picture haha.
I'm pretty sure I looked in the tm and the center of the diff is a lift point on a Rockwell axle. Don't quote me on it, I cannot access the tm's on my cell phone and do not have a computer handy.
I put the bottle jack on the drain plug in the center of the axle on my 5 ton, then put a 12 ton jackstand on each side of the axle where they can sit flat on the square axle tube.
It's easier on these heavy trucks to jack up each axle evenly and have both tires off the ground.
Check your duels after off-roading in Rocky areas. This could have ended bad if I did not see it before driving on the road.
I was giving a fellow member a ride in the deuce around my shop. We did some bush whacking, and had to crawl a pile of boulders. I never gave thought to a 10 lb rock...
The rubber lines can also have cracks and pinholes that you cannot see. I had to bench test my lines with air and soapy water and found lots of tiny holes in all the lines to and from the selector valve.
I have a guy somewhere in irwindale that did my vin verification, it's easier to pay a dmv service to do the registration.
If I remember correctly the vin on the frame is only x amount of the vin on the data plate. I can't remember for sure.
