How many trucks out there are H1s that have been converted? I know I'm asking a vague questions but I'm wondering if some of the "parts trucks" may not have been converted H1s.
Since I used the axles out of an M880 it came with 4.10s. If you are going to use a 4BT and 4.10 gear you will get good highway speed. 4.10s are low enough to also provide good off road performance. If you use CUCV axles (M1008 for axample) then you will have 4.56 ratio which will still provide...
Dave...I turn 50 in a month and can't remember anything anymore...:lol:
Here is how my project is going. Slow......

Ripley is only a 4 hour drive to Cleveland. If your in the neighborhood let me know and I'll show you what I've gotten done in person.
Matt I was talking about a front axle swap and not the disk conversion. I'm not sure how you could just flip the front hub bolts to install a D60 axle on the front end.
In order for the front axle (D60 or D44F as I used) to sit evenly spaced on the truck you must either shorten the drivers...
I'm sorry captain-cranky I had a momentary laps in terms and types sub-par as apose to the correct term of substitute-standard. But the other half of my statement which is that most of the trucks went overseas to the USSR under lend-lease is correct. Being that I was checking the site from...
I've been in this hobby for 28 years. I have never heard of any Duce having to be commercial licensed because of weight. Mostly has to do with the brakes and since it's air over hydrolic and not strick air brakes the trucks are usually exempt from commercial status. That's been my experience...
Rear axle replacement is easy almost a bolt in job. Front Axle is the PITA! You have to modify either the axle or the spring to make it work. It can be done though. Of course if you take a good look at rays brake system one could replicate it if they have a machine shop that will do that kind...
I was hoping GF would tell us that his dad is really a Bill Gates kind of guy and all the money he needs to finish his truck and move his gun smithing buisness into its own shop was just given to him and he has enough left over to get a few more MVs..... I guy can wish for good things can't he...
Nice looking truck. I love the siren on it! That rocks! Keep it when you restore/refinish. You look like you have a good project to start with!
@Zout: Love the avitar! ;)
Both issues may be the fuel pump. It sounds like when cold it pumps fuel fine as the motor warms up the pump starts to fail. Fix the fuel pump problem and then check from there. Gas could be getting into the motor via piston rings, but it sounds to me like what others have said the fuel pump...
The only problem with flat towing is that sometimes the steering will get cocked on you as you make a turn. The other problem I've had in the past is the steering going left-right left-right and setting up an osilation back and forth from a bump or uneven road. Generally if you slow down it...
That is a great option! Plus you get the packard conectors instead of he douglas ones which is a good upgrade. Unless you want the origianl look of the metal douglas connectors.

A couple of things. First it amazes me the size of a WWII duce compaired to the M series trucks. Both were speced to carry 2.5 tons cross country yet the M series trucks are so much bigger and beefier. Makes you think at just how tough these old GMCs were.
Second. What are your plans for...
