@Oldfart Your truck looks great and it is amazing that it was still in service until this year. It's funny how an older vehicle will slip through the cracks. I wonder why it was painted white? Do you have any history on the truck?
Truck looks good. You have some work ahead of you but nothing that can't be fixed. Does the truck have the original transmission or has it been changed? I see someone changed the original shift tower, but it's good that you still have it. I would put it back in if I was going to make it...
Here is what a quick look on the web for TOW brought up. It even shows a TOW being launched from a M151 (M825 was what the MUTT became once the TOW was installed on it.) Also historically speaking the TOW was never fitted to the M151A1 because the system was developed until the M151A2 was in...
Your truck was a shelter carrier and had the 100 amp system for powering all the equipment in the shelter. We're talking several tubed (yes I said tubes) radios, teletype machines, converters, power supplies, and lights. M42 may have had two or three radios mounted in them for command and...
It's cool that it has the XT (XL? XZ?) tires on it. But they look like they are touching each other or is that a camera illusion?
Truck looks great. I'm looking forward to lots of pictures of it as you go through your rebuild and customizing.
My budy back in 1988 got an M882 (I think?) that the motor was removed from it. We got a 360 with the torque converter because the one was gone on the truck and dropped it right in. Ran like a champ!
There are two types of GMCs. One's with exhust manifold problems and those that will get manifold problems. The thing with the manifold is that if your going to have it milled you need to have the head milled with it (IMHO) so that they meet up with no problems. Otherwise you may still end up...
I know the early M37 had the pintle hitch bolt to a plate that allowed it to spin, but didn't the later like the B1s have the more modern style where the hitch was formed into the bolt in which case you would need to modify that one to work no? I think HMMWV use a set up like that to but with a...
nopicsYou know someone had to say it.... :) Congrats on the truck and enjoy. I wish I still had my M211 but I'm a speed guy and 45mph was not my idea of fun on the interstate..... But compaired to the M35 the M211 rode so much nicer.
As for single tires....if you got the money you can get singles on it. Just a matter of getting new rims made with the correct sizing and backspacing. ...
I agree unless your going to be using a forklift to load and unload save the $300 for something else.
Now as for the wheels....I know that M35 rims will fit on a M211 and vice versa. Spent a whole day swapping tires from a M35 onto the M211 and the good tires on the 211 onto the M35. So...
Yes most MVs are not comfortable that's Rule #1 of MV ownership. Rule #2 is if it rains the water will leak onto your right foot. Rule #3 You will spend more time under an MV than driving it.
I can never get time and money to play nice together... lol!!!
Watch that first step doc...it's a loo loo!
That's my fear of those things is that I'd get up one morning or in the middle of the night to hit the latrine and I would fall to my death.
I know I know..... Because they look cool! Because they scream big army truck! Because they ride very comfortably for a big army truck! Because they stop great when all the brakes work correctly! Because they look cool! :D
I like the idea of the drop in bed camper mounted to the frame. Of course the HMMWV Ambulance look would make a cool trailer also. You could mock up a design easily I'm sure. If I wasn't at work right now I would do a little photoshopig to get you thinking. Good thread keep us posted.
I saw one similar to that excpet it was a slant top and had GO ARMY.COM and the Big Star logo... the local recruiter was using it. The other interesting thing was under the slant top was a killer sound system...that thing thumped and boomed. I asked the recruiter why they did that to a HMMWV...
