Update:
Put 2 new group 31 batteries in and hit the switch...runs like a champ. Good oil pressure, Compressor pumped up and shut off, Alt charging and let it run untill almost operating temp. even have 3/4 tank of fuel and yes i stuck it to be sure... Of course you know I had to drive down the...
Marine0369, I didnt take anything but a tractor trailer to load it on.The tow Co. I used is from the Eastern shore of Md, Hastings towing. Not sure if they would haul to Florida or not. I really dont think even if it runs, would i feel real comfortable driving it away under its own power. There...
Thanks, I didn't preview the truck, which I would recommend if possible. But have to say only a couple things I couldnt tell from pictures. Front edge of cab top, stitching has came apart. and the only rusty place is right along the front edge of the hood. All very repairable. Will replace...
Went to Ft Meade yesterday and picked up a 1979 M813 w/w. Was curious as how much trouble it would be since Ive read lots of complaints. But i have to say I dont have a single complaint. Directions onto base were right on the money. Security, through the commercial entrance, although a line at...
Keep in mind that rear or inner hub seal only keeps water, dirt etc out, does not keep oil in, so if oil goes past the key way, or outter seal, it will go past bearings, out rear seal and onto brakes, wheels etc
Wouldnt hurt to check or move the vents. I would imagine the more the truck is...
ahhh, thanks 73m819, that makes sense. Grease will continue to function when submerged to a point.
But a double lip seal will keep water out and oil in. For the most part..but does make sense, esepcially with the material and design back then.
Oh I see, move them around with one guy in a fork lift. Ill look it over good, but going to take out on low boy anyway. To far to drive and not be able to check over, plus no tags. Good luck with repairing yours.
How is it they damage them with forklifts?? Ive heard this mentioned before. We push trucks around all the time with forklifts. Do they lift one end and turn sideways or something?
I put a small amount of silicone against the tab before threading on nut, then after nut installed another small dab..doesnt take a lot. Then didnt drive truck down the road for a day or so to let cure well.
Ive worked on trucks for 30 years and had never seen seal this type on a truck. I have...
I never had much luck putting rtv on the outside of anything and getting it to hold. Should be able to weld it up and hold oil just fine. Good that you can fix it instead of replacing it. Im picking a m813 up from meade on Tuesday. Wish me luck with the fork lift damages.
Mine was leaking at the cork in the key way. Seal looked pefect. Didnt replace it. cleaned it all up, packed bearings, used silicone, [good silicone] and so far good.
He may be a mechanic, but all the other trucks I've worked on dont have an inner and outter seal. He may be the same way. The...
Im picking up a M813 from meade on tuesday. Im sure we'll need some parts for it, heater etc..so when i make a trip to Preston, hopefully in next couple weeks, ill take some pics. It looks just like the one somebody posted here.
The one in Preston..a trailer model..has everything in it, lathe, press, drill press, and welder..Looks pretty complete. At the time I asked the guy he wanted $5500 for it..i would love it, way cool..but I dont really have a use for it. Already have a mill and lathe and it woulod just sit..so...
Ft. Meade jsut sold onea couple weeks ago, and I know where there is one at a junk yard in Preston, md..in very nice shape. probably to far from you, but if you want info on it PM me.
Leaks and barely runs might be a ok thing..blown up would be a bad thing. If its been sittin, and i imagine it has, I am positive something will leak. may just try getting it running. May not even need overhauling. A coolant leak could be anything as could running bad. i would get your brother...
You could modify a 2x4, or anything else for that matter, but I bet your dad would like it original. Or maybe not. If your doing it for him, I'd feel it out what he would want. but again, its your project.. still looks cool.
Makes a great project truck, doubt you would have any problem...
It was the same thing with 2010 changes to emissions. it didn't affect older trucks, that's when Cat exited the market.
We have several trucks, go to reduced power, reduced speed, because of plugged DPF's. These trucks are supposed to re-gen on their own, but when something goofs and it doesnt...
Same here, all I have heard is new trucks. Its hard to re-tro emissions on older engines. If not impossible. Of course calif, could do it. We have a bunch of DPF filters on new IHs and are a pain. Already have had to have 4 cleaned, and not under warranty. The fords with the Def fluid have not...
While F550 brakes would most likely stop the truck, alot of F550s are 19,000 gvw and the M35 would have 6 of them instead of 4. I would still think there are alot of variables to be worked out. Master cylinder size, booster, mounting brackets and mounting angles as well as rotor mounting. Not...
