A tranny swap?
Klepto, get crack'in!
It's big, but doable. Search for transmission or clutch replacement threads for some ideas on how to support that slug of a transmission. There are some good ideas on how to make a cab supported lift that is sufficiently articulated for stabbing...
A deuce may be a good patient for a low cost thermostat. I have compared thermostats for autos and have noticed that the low cost thermostats are not made of the same quality or complexity and fear they will not regulate the water temperature as required.
Let us know how yours works and lasts...
I definitely recommed a loop west to avoid the NY I95 logjamb. It's no fun in any vehicle!
Sorry, I won' be stateside for another month and even then I'll be about 45 minutes of your LZ.
Best wishes with your aquisition and happy trails to you.

Most axles have an ID tag on the rear of the housing.
If that tag is there I think it will be easily identified through a parts supplier like Merex in Germany.

I've been tens of thousands of miles in Baja, the SoCal desert, Australia and off road here in CR. The ONE time I had to hike out I was so remote there was nothing to worry about. I was where no man had gone before. and it was not a mechanical failure, it was a driver failure.
PM is the key...
What he said! I like the tummy- tuck look! It's much more business like off-roading over obstacles and loose tree branches.
Reroute your exhaust inside the frame, down and back and you got one clean look'in machine.

Ok, I understand and accept the utility of a 4 way, 3 position, open center valve with a detent on each position. That will give me the "on/off" positions I wanted and in addition will have the reversing feature for operating say, a winch.
Next questions: What size (in GPM) should I build for...
I see you have the filter is installed on the return side, vs the suction side where I drew it. Good to know.
Ty, I think we are describing the same thing: an open center valve (or valves) are needed to create circulation, and must be operated to pressurize the couplings.
I was trying to...
I guess we are all different. I actually prefer that vehicles come and go from my yard. I just don't have the attachment to any one vehicle, especially when there are so many interesting ones I have yet to possess!
Cheers to the OP for valuing his tie to his time in service.

Technology makes my head hurt
Here is what I envision such that the truck has the ability to run a open centered system without dedicated valve banks fitted to the terminations. Instead there is a single "on/off" valve that provides an open center if there are no implements attached to the...
Cheers runk, I appreciate the links to any discussions and materials at this point!
Thanks Ty, I get that I can build an open center system at lowest cost, pick a pump for the highest anticipated flow and build a system with the largest reservoir that I can possibly manage.
