Well if he is bobbing the truck that will cut out 4 wheel cylinders so he would only have to pump fluid to 8 instead of 12. I think if he got a hydro system out of say large commerical truck like a F450 or GMC 600 with a dual circuit front and rear the booster on that should give enough to work...
That sure is a pretty icecream truck.... :)
I'd like to see more of that truck.
Keep plugging away with your truck GR....it will all come together at some point.
Un hook the drive shafts to both the front, intermeadiate and rear axles and you should be ok. If the axles can trun free from the rest of the drive train you'll be ok. Trust me I know. Flat towed my M211 when it died about 10 miles and I didn't pull the drive shafts and the stupid transfer...
And the money is already spent right? I know, I've been there done that! Glad you were able to get it sold and I hope you got every dollar you asked for.
Just another thought for your gear ratio. You could just swap the axles out. Though it's not a straight swap. I'm talking about say a set of Dana 60s out of a mid 80s Dodge or a Dana 60 and Corp 14 bolt from a 80s Chevy. The rears will only need the spring perches moved. Thr front will need...
I don't consider the 700R4 a down grade from the TH400 at all. In fact I think of it as an upgrade. It has a great low first gear 3.06:1. and a fourth gear of .70:1. Were as the Th400 has a first gear of 2.48:1 and no fourth gear. Therefore I believe the 700R4 gives you a better driving range...
Oh and another thing. You might give thought to using a set of super single tires like found on the M35a3. Maybe not that rim, but one like it that people are selling out there since they both the M35 serries and the M135 serries trucks have the same bolt pattern.
If you want to make a single axle truck I would use the G506 of WWII as your insperation. Chevrolet 1 1/2 ton 4x4 Cargo Truck (G7107 & G7117)
I think the 6.2 with 700R4 is a good combo...or a 6.5 turbo would be even better or the 6.2 with a turbo set up...basically the same thing.
As for...
Most of the HMMWV we see in TV and movies are Civilian ones that they paint to look military. But then again you only see them from afar so they look good from a distance. If I was going to go to the expense of getting a HMMWV I would probably buy an H1 and spend the extra expense to convert...
@TGP Tom do you know any other details about the truck? What did he use for the frame and rear axles? Any build specifics that his add didn't go into detail about that you might be able to share?
I hope you didn't think I was trying to flame you because I wasn't. You said gray so I thought that maybe you were doing some type of Navy thing. Not a problem on the color. If it was pink then I might give you a hard time, but hey that's a cool color also. :)
Yes please keep pictures posted.
Yep that's what happens on M serries trucks. The rubber insulation breaks down and the connectors either rust up or fuse together or both. Your smart to just replace with new.
@billystuart I agree with Poppop. You need to determin which brakefluid you have. M15a1's are old enough that it is possible that they left the military with DOT 3 brake fluid in them as the Army didn't switch to DOT 5 until the early 80s. It is also possible that who ever owned it before you...
I baught those from him when they were $12 each. Got 12 of them and replaced everyone on my truck. This was like 15 years ago if I remember correctly.... Anyway they were very good, and worked great. Once I got the brakes working on that truck it would stop on a dime and give 8 cents...
As for breaking an axel on the M37 I've seen a few people spin their tires on wet grass with a stock M37 and break the axel. The stock axel IMHO is the weak link in the system.
@Tanner...yes I think it will be up to us. When I get a few more things done I'll post a picture or two. It may...
