Doesn't matter to the state if it carries anything or not. Its the manufactures GVW they go by. An M35 is under that at 23500 gvw w/w or about 23000 w/o winch. A M813 5 ton has empty weight of about 21000.so its GVW would be about 41,000 gvw including its 10 ton [20,000] on road capacity...
I drove Both in the Marines in the early 80's when the M923's were new. Compared to the M813's we had, I liked the air shift front axle on the M923's. Otherwise, I prefer the M813. It seemed to me the M813 was a little more powerful, especially in sand and mountain roads. [un-paved roads] Same...
This weekend coming up is Ocean City Maryland's Jeep week. Although a jeep week [civilian], they welcome all the military trucks. If interested here is their home page http://www.oceancityjeepweek.com/home.html. My son and I plan on taking the M35 and M813 to the show and shine at Barrett's...
Thanks cranetruck very interesting. We have a few dump trucks that run a pto driven air compressor off the transfer case as well, so sorta same set up.
Get an old M35/M813/M923... good to go, just make sure over 25 years old. Maryland has gotten to be a pain state, don't get me started.. although the 5 tons, you will need CDL for because of the air brakes. M813 doesn't have true air brakes, but is heavy. MVA tagged mine at "0" gvw since it was...
Maybe a dumb question, but does the military wreckers have a foot or hand throttle at the controls? I would hate to have another motor to fool with just to run the boom. I've worked on digger derricks and bucket trucks for 25 years and they all run on the trucks engine driven pto. Derricks...
I tagged both my M35 [1970] and M813 [1979] as historic. Maryland has been messing with antique laws because of all the junk on the road. I insured through state farm, no problems. Trailers I tag through Maine, don't even need a title for before 1994 I think.. Mine are all 1967/68's so plenty...
Just picked up 4 trailers at Newcastle site, great people and super easy. Much easier than Ft Meade, as there is no security to go through. Just a civilian truck sales place.
Yes straight RTV will work. I've had the silicone in there for about 2 years now, plenty of miles. [about time for another re-packing] But good idea on the chunk of cork too. Like you said makes you feel better. The 5 ton I bought from GL had silicone in there already, no cork, so I suppose the...
Im not sure about the A3 as mine is an A2. Assuming they have same axles, I use good automotive silicone instead of cork plug in the key way. Seems to work fine. Like permatex black or gray
last month I ordered a road side tool kit for a M35. It never made it here. Fed-ex showed picking it up from them and then the tracking stoped. Not sure what happened, but either way GL refunded my money which I think was great. I just wanted to say everyone I talked to was very willing to help...
Just a dumb question, why would your son not want you to paint your trucks with USMC marking? Both my trucks [M35 and M813] were national guard trucks. One PA and One MD. They both are marked as USMC trucks now. I marked them according to old pictures I had.
M813RC has pictures in this post...
sent you a PM, but never mind...was an easy find. Not a bad deal really, a good jack is high $$ and so is the air chuck w/gauge. Not sure the socket will do you any good but still not a bad deal all in all,
