One thought, be careful cleaning fuel injectors with a brush. Soft brush maybe, but you can damage an injector tip/nozzle and your really not cleaning out the inside, only the carbon off the outside. It doesnt cost that much to have a Fuel shop clean them. I would ether do nothing to them or...
I wish we had painted out 1970 Duece its original color when we re-painted it. We went back with the 3 color camo which is how it was painted when it left the service. Next one will be all green.
Well, i also spent many hours and miles in them in the Marines. We use them to go to touch a truck shows thats kids love. They climb all over them. Its a blast. Also parades, car/ truck shows and special events for veterans. I agree its one of the most patriotic hobbies you can have. I have met...
Happy to see more old trucks going to good homes and not being cut up. Last year a local scrap yard near here cut up/crushed about a dozen of them [M35]. Good job on keeping another one alive.
A 24 volt battery charger is going to put out a little more than 24 volts. I would think it would boil to death a 12 volt battery. Why not just charge both batteries at once? 24 volt. Hook up to the + terminal going to the truck and the - going to the frame.
Just leave some slag on the welds. It will look just like a mechanic in the motor pool welded it up in a hurry. As was probably the case. Good idea MIG some hidden welds, and stick the outside. Great project, keep us posted.
Oh gotcha, was thinking how heavy and hard to handle 3/4" plate is. Ive made plow blades from 1" AR400 plate and its deceiving how heavy it is. I've always been interested in the gun trucks of vietnam and have looked through tons of pictures. I agree if I ever build one, it will be removable as...
Great project, thanks for the pics and glad your keeping it original. Those who want to modify the trucks I think is creative and cool looking. But I prefer original. Our M35 and M813 are painted exactely like we got them.
Did you really use 3/4" plate for the sides? Or did I read that wrong?
I think your wise to tow it. I bought an M813 from Ft Meade, had a friend with a landau trailer [spelling] go with me to get it. Was a no worry trip and well worth the money. Got home put batteries in it and fired it up.
Thats a neat looking bobbed 5 ton. Serious looking front bumper and boom. As far as beach recovery, here tow companys use F350-F550's for the most part. With single rear wheels. As far as the size truck it seems your typically pulling out. A M35A2 might be the best. With a few modifications and...
Oh no you scratched the bed!!!!:o Nice looking truck. I also wondered why Newcastle has so many trucks and Ft.Meade hardly any lately. Although for me about same distance either way.
It does only engage the transfer case. The front axle turns all the time even without transfer case engaged its just not powered. Unless you have front locking hubs.
The 809 series doesn't have an air shift transfer case like the 900 series, or the M35's, they have a sprag in it. My M813 transfer case seems to work fine but I still prefer the air sift transfer case. Here are some comparisons off the top of my head.
M35A2
Air transfer case, multi fuel...
I'm sure its best to chain up all drive axles. But with the trucks we use at work, we are on and off the plowed roads, so its easier to just install one set when you need it. If you are going to stay in the snow and not run on really good plowed pavement, putting them on all drive wheels is...
one set of chains would help a lot. You would be amazed how much difference it makes. Ive never tried them yet on ours since we havent had much snow in the last couple years. But on 2 wheel drive trucks (C8500's and F750's) they are awesome.
